The Origin of Betty

     My business is named after my grandmother, Elizabeth Farmer, better known as Betty Jane. She was a beautiful, hip, extremely intelligent, ahead-of-her-time lady. We lived with my grandparents from the time I was about 3 until I was 7 or 8. During that time, my grandmother and grandfather both had a very strong influence on me, but especially my grandmother.

     When I was little, my grandpa would sometimes take me to work with him at Owens-Illinois. He would have his secretary go take a break and she would have me sit at her desk while she was gone. Then they would both call or tell people to stop by his office so I could play secretary. I would get home and tell my grandma that I wanted to be a secretary when I grew up. She would say “Why don’t you be the boss instead?” And I would say "Because I want to answer the phone". Her reply, every time, was always: "When you're the boss, YOU can decide who answers the phone".  This was an epic moment for me. Brilliant!

      I have decided to do things that bring me joy to make a living instead of just having a job. I used to help my grandma set up for her garden parties and bridge club meetings and of course the grand holiday dinners she hosted. They were all beautiful and flawless and so very impressive. I have always modeled the events we have in our family after hers. 

     After being the wedding planner for my step-daughter's gorgeous wedding and receiving so many complements on it (see my photos page), I decided that event planning would be my focus. Event and wedding planning comes naturally to me and the details are things that do not get by me. I enjoy the planning and making sure no details get overlooked. 

     My grandmother passed away in 2016 and there has been a hole in my heart ever since. I will always miss her, but being the boss and running my own business would make her very proud.
